Rumors about the impending iOS 5 update are running rampant for users of iPhones, Pads and Pods, but what about the lowly old Apple TV? Rumor(s) have it that the device is slated to become of the biggest game platforms in the world, thanks to Apple’s revolutionary App Store.

So-here’s the rumor: Apple TV is going to get a lot better through the addition of an App Store on the platform. Meaning that game developers are going to be able to put their games into 720p (1080p for the rumored A5 Apple TV) for the big screen. This whole rumor is due to Engadget’s findings. A reference to ATVThunder and ATVGames was found in the source code of the iOS 4.3 beta a while ago.

Whenever people ask me, “How would the Apple TV be controlled?” I tell them that there are over 100,000,000 iOS devices out there, which are all Bluetooth and WiFi enabled, and are already connected to the Apple TV over the WiFi network (AirPlay, anyone?). Apple would probably develop a stand alone “Controller” application in order to interact with games on the big screen.
