Garmin: Merrill Turns Bullish On Stronger Auto GPS Demand
Sep 11, 2009Garmin (GRMN) shares are getting a boost today from Bank of America/Merrill Lynch analyst Vivek Arya , who today raised his rating on the stock to Buy from Underperform, while increasing his price target to $45, from $30.
Arya writes in a research note that upgrade reflects improving near-term trend in the auto GPS market, overdone concerns on smartphone cannibalization, a macro-driven pick-up in non-PND segments (for aviation, marine and outdoor applications) and an attractive valuation, at 11x earnings ex cash.
He also notes that the company’s more than $10 a share in cash could drive buybacks and M&A-led rgowth.
Arya writes that checks find Garmin, Mitac and TomTom are all seeing a revival in auto GPS demand due to inventory restocking.
For 2009, he now sees EPS of $2.62, up from $2.57; for 2010 he goes to $2.44, from $2.35.
GRMN this morning is up $1.84, or 5.1%, to $37.90.
