"And
Apple has got to be unhappy. AT&T failed to support multimedia messaging (MMS) and tethering (using a
phone as a laptop modem) now that
iPhone itself supports those features. (AT&T finally said last week it would add MMS starting Sept. 25, although there's still no date for tethering.) Apple's best customers complain about AT&T's lousy service and misinformed salespeople," Elgan writes. "Apple worked hard to perfect the iPhone experience, and AT&T is wrecking it."
I must say, I've been pretty satisfied myself (excepting the outrageous text messaging fees!). I switched from Sprint, have always gotten better reception since switching, and since day 1 of the 3G iPhone, have gotten 3G in a small-ish city in Georgia (admittedly with a very large university attached to it). I'm not thrilled at how much the services cost, but my 3G works very well for me, so I don't complain too much.
T-mobiles network is garbage. One can't assume verizon would have been any better than AT&T;because it's a hypothetical situation. Now has AT&T;been slow with upgrades? Yes. Is their cell service adequate? Yes. Stupid for not rolling out mms and tethering on time? Yes. While thier employees can be clueless they are at least polite and their call center reps are very customer focused. I'm happy with AT&T;.
However, I know several people on other services who'd love to have an iPhone but refuse to switch carriers. One of whom would have no issues where he lives, I proved that to him, it eventually came out that his wife just likes
Verizon! The other, a family member, has very little to no AT&T;reception at their home in a fairly large suburban area which i find odd.
I am still waiting for Verizon and stuck with my crackberry. ATT reception is awful here and at the office, so I really can not use it. Too much cross talk, static, and dropped calls. If the local authorities would allow another tower to be installed, my problems would be solved, but that isn't going to happen. I guess I could always sell the house and move, and changing offices would be no problem, but somehow that seems a little extreme.
