US-based equipment supplier Motorola has announced that it has been selected by Liberty Global subsidiary UPC Broadband to deploy its SBV6120E EuroDOCSIS 3.0 voice and data solution across its networks in the Netherlands, Austria, Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia and Switzerland. The upgrade will allow the operator to expand its flagship ‘Fiber Power’ high-speed data service with speeds of up to 120Mbps, which is already available in some Dutch and Austrian markets. Eric Lennon, CTO of UPC Broadband, said: ‘As a leading provider of DOCSIS 3.0 solutions, Motorola’s modems are a key element in enabling UPC to provide our Fiber Power service, which is perfectly placed to meet the customer demands for increased bandwidth and multimedia experiences.’ As reported by CommsUpdate, UPC first launched Fiber Power in late-2008 across selected Dutch markets, covering 1.1 million homes in seven markets with the network by the end of the year. The following June the company launched the service in Vienna, covering the entire city by the end of August.
