The Atrix scores well for security, being the world's first smartphone to feature a fingerprint scanner. The biometric system is identical to those found on many laptops, and offers a simple but secure way to protect data.

A PIN provided during setup, however, means that users can bypass the biometric system if they want to let other people use the device.

Battery life is looking much improved over similar handsets. The Atrix is powered by a 1,930mAh lithium polymer battery, which should offer significantly improved standby time over other dual-core phones, many of which are using 1,500mAh or lower capacity batteries.

The Lapdock adds another three-cell battery that Motorola claims will last eight hours. The dock weighs just 1.1Kg and features an 11.1in screen, full-size keyboard and two USB sockets.
