What China's Booming Mobile Phone Demand Means For Apple's Stock

While we know that Apple (AAPL) is doing well in China and we have a vague notion that the Chinese market is a big one, we don’t often understand the true gigantic size of the opportunity.

Let’s look specifically at the mobile phone market, where Apple is doing well. iPhone 4 has been a hit there and there is even more anticipation over the iPhone 5 coming later in the year.

Just last week, 4 were injured at Apple’s Sanlitun store in the Soho-like neighborhood in Beijing. The reason for the injuries? It was the first day of iPad 2 sales and the crowds were urgently pushy.

But look at how big the mobile phone market is in China. In the first 3 quarters of 2010, more than 179 million cell phones were sold. Assuming each phone sells for only RMB 1,000 (which is likely low), more than RMB 179 billion were spent on buying cell phones in the first 3 quarters of 2010. That is roughly $28 billion.

A: newer phones require newer sims to use both the phone and network to its fullest. Im assuming you got your nokia a while back and it came with the sim in question? if so then you should probably get a new sim anyway.
