HP Veer (AT&T)
Feb 04, 6283Unfortunately, HP veers far from the mainstream smartphone market with the Veer, an amusingly teeny-tiny webOS phone that can't carry the future of its platform on its diminutive shoulders. While the Veer is certainly cute, it's too much of an outlier, with too many missteps to recommend enthusiastically.
Physical Design
The Veer looks almost exactly like a shrunk-down Palm Pre 2 ($99, 3 stars). At an improbably teeny 3.3 by 2.1 by .6 inches (HWD) and 3.6 oz, it's a black, soft-touch, egg-shaped slider, with an itsy-bitsy 2.6-inch, 320-by-400-pixel touch screen above a keyboard of small, slightly sticky, bubbled keys. The metal Power and Volume buttons protrude slightly from the phone's body.
Whether you find this adorable or abominable has to do entirely with your hand size. For a man, I have pretty small hands, and I found the keyboard easy enough to type on, but some of the more sausage-fingered fellows in the office couldn't handle it.
